The Society of Florida Archivists, in conjunction with the Society of American Archivists, celebrates October as American Archives Month, which is a collaborative effort by professional organizations and repositories around the nation to highlight the importance of records of enduring value.

Please join us in celebrating both the national event, as well as here in Florida, where the governor has proclaimed that it is Florida Archives Month every October hereafter!

Through the hard work of our team, composed of SFA members across the state, we were successful in promoting archives through our webpage and events calendar, an online exhibit, poster, and workshops as well as securing the proclamation.

The online exhibit is made up of digitized materials from the rich archival collections around our state, celebrating both Archives Month and the 500th anniversary of Ponce De Leon’s arrival in Florida. Viva Florida!

Gaylord’s Archival Products’ Amanda Rose conducted a well-attended preservation workshop in Orlando on October 1st. Through our efforts, we were able to connect community members, students, and representatives from several central Florida institutions. Don’t miss the next workshop, to be held in Tallahassee on October 21st. For more information, see our flyer for the event!

I’d also like to say a very big thank you to all of those who participated, helping to make our inaugural year a success. I look forward to improving and expanding our activities next year.
