In Memorium: Claire Cardina
In lieu of our Friday News Round-Up, this week we would like to honor an SFA member we lost this week.
Claire Cardina, Noted Tampa City Archivist and Record Manager (1931-2013)
Claire A. Cardina, an award winning archivist and records manager for the City of Tampa, 82, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013. Claire was an active SFA member for many years, and served as its president from 1991-1992. She graduated from Gettysburg College and also earned her master’s degree in Library Science from Rutgers University.
In Summer 1987, Claire received a grant from the National Publications and Records Commission to employ an Assistant City Archivist, Robert McInnes, to establish a municipal archives. The grant funds also helped create a local government archives to promote the Tampa community’s sense of history and heritage.
In 1989, she wrote Developing a Vital Records Program for Local Government, published by the American Association for State and Local History.
Online condolences may be sent here. Memorial services will be held tomorrow, Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 10AM – Noon at Blount and Curry Carrollwood Chapel (Bearss Avenue, Tampa, Florida).
